Oscoluwa Engine and Hose Company
Auxiliary Scholarship 2002

Since 1871, the Oscoluwa Engine and Hose Company otherwise known as the Troy Volunteer Fire Department, has been serving our community.

From starting with a horse drawn steamer to the several working engines they have now, the fire department has always been there to help the town of Troy and surrounding areas. Although our community is not large enough to support a large fire company, we have a very active volunteer fire department with around 90 members. If we did not have the Troy Fire department, our community would suffer many losses such as buildings, local businesses, homes, and lives.

The fire company is one of the most valued programs in our community and is always on call for emergencies. Many tragic events in history have involved the company. From floods to fires, they were always there. People depend on the fire department when their house is on fire, and know that if they are in an accident, the firemen will do their best to help. The firemen of the Troy Fire Department have saved countless lives and he community is very thankful. Our area is very lucky to have a volunteer fire dept like this one.

Many small communities and suburban areas don't have a good department and good equipment like ours. The people and businesses of our area depend on the fire department to keep our town thriving and successful, as well as safe. I'm proud to have a community with such an active and productive fire department and I am proud to be the daughter of a fireman. I hope the Troy Fire Department continues to grow and maintain the status it has in our community, and is always there for years to come.
