On July 18 and 19, 2003 Oscoluwa Engine and Hose Company participated in the 65th Annual New York-Pennsylvania (NYP) Firemen's Convention, held at Knoxville, Pa.Miss Troy, Miss Emily Vinson, was chosen first runner-up in the NYP Queens Contest held during the annual banquet Friday evening. Emily was escorted by her brother, Firemen Matt Vinson, an active member of the fire department. Miss Vinson received a nice trophy and a bouquet of flowers.
Another highlight of the banquet was First Assistant Chief Matt Eckert was chosen as the NYP Fireman of the Year for his heroic efforts at a disastrous MVA on Route 14 south during last year's Troy Fair. Matt received a large trophy for his honor.
Also, our delegate to the NYP, Richard Jenkins, was elected a life member of the NYP Association. He received a gold NYP Firemen's Badge for his many years dedication.
On Saturday morning, July 19 Troy’s Firematics team competed in the annual hose competition, which consists of seven different fire skill drills. They were very successful by placing first in the five-man straight lay, first in the Portable Pump, first in the Bucket Brigade and second in the three-man Ladder Climb. The department was also awarded two first place trophies for the Best Appearing Fire Apparatus and the Fire Company Traveling the longest distance to participate.
The hose team consisted of; Ben McClure, Shawn MacDougall, Tim Ayers, Thad Dibble, Jay Cummings, Matt Vinson, Ralph Knapp, Brad Smith, Lee Vinson and Captain Dick Garrison.
